Gay comic Danny Cohen stops by to discuss his failed attempt to become straight. Plus, we play the gaydar game where Danny and my co-host Rob tried to guess whether someone was gay based on a short clip. Does Danny, as a gay man, have better gaydar than Rob? Listen to the Podcast. Plus, our weekly news roundup and more!
Jeff Nichols stops by to let us know how his life is going. Of course we talked about what everyone is talking about – Mel Gibson. Jeff, Rob and I analyze the three rants thus far released. We also talk about Steinbrenner’s death and other news items.
This week Rob played “The Dubbed TV Show Challenge”. I played Rob a clip of a beloved American tv show dubbed into another language and Rob tried to guess which show it was from a master list of shows. Here is the list so you can play at home: “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air”, “Saved by the Bell”, “Knight Rider”, “Sex and the City”, “Alf”, “LA Law”, “The Facts of Life”, “The Love Boat”, “Dallas”, “The Cosby Show”, “Baywatch”, “Cheers”, “Laverne & Shirley”, and “Married with Children.” On the podcast I called it “The Dubbed Sitcom Challenge”, but not all the shows were sitcoms, so I mispoke. Rob did surprising well getting more answers correct than I would have predicted. After the “Dubbed Sitcom Challenge” I talked a little about my upcoming trip to France and my plan to do stand-up in French, a language I’ve been studying for several years in my free time, of which I have too much. Why do I want to do stand-up in French? Well, why not? I’ll be the first American comic to do it, as far as I know. Of course we ended the podcast with our weekly news roundup which included a discussion of the passing of Robert Byrd.
New comic Keren Margolis stopped by this week for advice on the comedy business. I think she should get a respectable career but since she refuses, I figured I’d help her navigate her way in comedy. We discussed the best way to succeed, which in my opinion is to have the right friends. I of course have never been good at that. We also did our weekly news roundup where we discussed the oil spill, Israel’s easing of the Gaza blockade, Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart’s marriage and more.
Just for fun we played clips of German versions of popular t.v. show and Rob tried to guess which shows they were. God bless him, he got two out of three. We also talked about Rob’s YouTube cartoon which parodied how baseball has become all about $$$. We played a clip from the cartoon in which I (who play the voice of Hank Steinbrenner in the video) sing a song about how the Yankees have ruined baseball sung to the tune of feniculi fenicula. Then we did the news as usual. It was a slower news week than last week. We talked about Helen Thomas and the Taliban’s horrific execution of a 7-year-old. By the way, here’s Rob’s video:
