My friend Morgan Murphy took advantage of her week off as a writer for the Jimmy Fallon show to join Rob and I on the podcast. Morgan told us how she got her job writing for Fallon via a personalized Mad Lib that I wrote for the occasion. Then we got right to our weekly news roundup. It was a wicked heavy news week.How heavy? Gary Coleman, Dennis Hopper and Rue McClanahan all died this week. Not enough? How about the Israeli raid on the flotilla in the Mediterranean. Not only that, Al and Tipper announced their separation and Joran Van Der Sloot is on the run. Yep. As heavy a news week as I can remember, and we discussed it all on the show. Have a listen.

Friend and fellow comedian Sandy Marks stops by to play “Name that Movie”. Rob and Sandy compete to see who can name the most movies based on a short clip. Who won? Listen to the podcast. The sound quality of the film clips varies. Something to work on for next time. Then we had our weekly news roundup where we discussed the American Idol finale. We played of clip of Dane Cook’s tribute to Simon where Dane said the the only way Simon’s shirts could be tighter is if Randy was in there with him. A decent joke IMO.

I was looking forward to playing “Name that Movie” this week where Rob competes with another contestant  to see who can name a movie based on a short clip. I couldn’t coordinate Rob’s schedule with any potential contestants. I can’t just pick anyone to play against Rob. It has to be someone that I think would be fun to have on the podcast as well as someone who knows enough about movies to be a good competitor. Instead I decided to do the best of my popular Real Books/Fake Excerpts segment where I take a real book, which I didn’t write, and read a fake excerpt, which I did write. The books I read fake excerpts from were “Labradoodles, A Complete Pet Owner’s Manual”, “The Man Who Made Lists: Love, Death, Madness, and the Creation of Roget’s Thesaurus”, “Here’s Johnny: My Memories of Johnny Carson, The Tonight Show and 46 Years of Friendship, “Emily Post’s Etiquette”: The Definitive Guide to Manners” and Shakespeare’s “Henry V”. After this we did this news where we discussed, among other things, Rima Fakia, the first Arab American to win the Miss USA pageant, Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal’s bogus claims of having been in Nam,  and motorcycle mogul Jesse James’ interview where he discussed his failed marriage to Sandra Bullock. On the latest episode of “The Dan Naturman Show” podcast we bring back a segment called “Things I learned on Wikipedia”. Did you know that Hitler’s dog Blondi has her own Wikipedia entry? Well she does. And why not? She’s probably the most famous dog of the twentieth century. Can you name one more famous? Lassie you say. Sorry. Lassie is fictional. Anyway, I learned on Wikipedia that Blondi’s pups were all shot in the garden of the bunker shortly after Blondi herself died from a cyanide pill administered by Hitler’s physician. The Fuhrer’s beloved German Shepherd thus has no living descendants. I also learned on Wikipedia that the word  “Dirty Sanchez” is considered indecent by the FCC and that giving someone “the finger” goes back to Roman times where it was called digitus impudicus (impudent finger). After “Things I learned on Wikipedia” we discussed the news as always. Both Rob and I agreed that Grayson Chance (the kid who sang “Paparazzi” on YouTube) will be huge. We discussed the death of jazz icon Lena Horne and Elin Nordegren’s apparent imminent divorce from Tiger Woods.

Just posted a new episode of The Dan Naturman Show.  In this episode I play a call I made to “The New Yorker” magazine on my friend Dan Lobell’s radio show. Why did I call “The New Yorker”? Because they rejected a comedy essay I wrote that I felt was perfect for the magazine. I end up locking horns with  a guy that sounds a lot like Bill Cosby, although I picture him looking more like Al Roker. Not the thin Al, but the older, fatter Al. Of course I could be wrong. He may not look anything like Al Roker. Hell, he may not even be black. I wasn’t able to get my essay in the magazine, but a good time was had by all. The show ended, as alway, with our weekly news roundup. Rob and I talked about Justin Bieber’s New Zealand interview where he appeared to not know what the word “German” meant. On his twitter page he claims he thought the Kiwi interview said “Jewman”. What do I think? Listen to the podcast. We also talked about Lawrence Taylor’s arrest for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl. I made the point that LT was such a great player, even I had heard of him before the alleged rape. I pay such little attention to sports that I usually only hear of these guys when they run afoul of the law. We discussed the big oil spill as well and Rob and I wondered whether the spilled oil was still usable and if it’s worth going down there and trying to collect some of that spilled “black gold”.  All in all, a fine podcast and worth a listen.
